Ayurveda and Cancer Survivorship

Life after cancer treatment

Ayurveda & Integrative

What does survivorship mean?

Cancer survivorship begins from the time of diagnosis and continues throughout life.

For some people, treatment ends and they move into long-term follow-up.

For others, cancer remains part of their ongoing medical care. 

Why can life after treatment feel difficult?

You may expect to feel completely normal after treatment ends.

Instead, you may experience:

Fatigue

Anxiety about recurrence

Changes in your body

Fear before follow-up scans

Changes in relationships

Difficulty returning to work

Financial concerns

Uncertainty about the future

What can help?

Keep your follow-up appointments.

Know your treatment history.

Maintain healthy eating habits.

Stay physically active according to your ability.

Avoid tobacco.

Limit alcohol.

Look after your emotional health.

Follow recommended screening and preventive care. 

Where might Ayurveda fit?

Ayurveda may provide a supportive framework for:

Daily routine

Nutrition

Physical activity

Relaxation

Sleep

Stress management

General wellbeing

Ayurvedic medicines should be considered individually rather than automatically prescribed to every cancer survivor.

Remember

Cancer survivorship is not simply "treatment finished."

It is a new phase of life that deserves its own care plan.

This information is intended for education and supportive care. It does not replace consultation, diagnosis or treatment by a qualified healthcare professional. If you have cancer, do not stop, delay or change prescribed cancer treatment because of information found on this website. Tell your cancer-care team about all medicines, Ayurvedic preparations, herbs, vitamins and supplements you use. This is especially important for the Ayurveda section because interactions between cancer medicines and supplements/herbal products can occur.

Reliable sources: National Cancer Institute (NCI), World Health Organization (WHO), relevant national cancer-care guidelines, and appropriate peer-reviewed evidence.
