Can Cancer Come Back After Treatment?

Some cancers can recur; others may never return.

Questions You're Afraid to Ask

The short answer

Some cancers can recur; others may never return.

The risk depends on many factors, including cancer type, stage, biology and treatment response.

This uncertainty can be difficult.

Your doctor may recommend regular follow-up to look for recurrence, monitor long-term effects and address new health concerns. 

What should you do?

Keep your follow-up appointments.

Know which symptoms your doctor wants you to report.

Maintain your treatment records.

Do not miss follow-up simply because you feel well.

Remember

Follow-up is not a sign that your doctor expects the cancer to return.

It is part of responsible cancer care.
