Can I Take Turmeric or Curcumin During Cancer Treatment?

Turmeric used as a normal food ingredient is not the same as taking a concentrated curcumin supplement.

Questions You're Afraid to Ask

The short answer

Turmeric used as a normal food ingredient is not the same as taking a concentrated curcumin supplement.

Why does this matter?

Concentrated supplements can provide much larger amounts of active compounds than ordinary food.

Some supplements may interact with cancer medicines. 

What should I do?

If you are considering curcumin or a high-dose turmeric preparation:

Tell your oncologist.

Show the product label.

Tell your doctor the dose.

Tell them why you want to take it.

Do not assume:

"Traditional use" = proven cancer treatment.

"Natural" = no side effects.

"Anti-inflammatory" = cancer cure.

Remember

Turmeric can be part of food.

Concentrated supplements require a different level of caution.
