Do I Need to Start Cancer Treatment Immediately?

It depends entirely on the type and stage of cancer.

Questions You're Afraid to Ask

The short answer

Sometimes treatment needs to begin quickly. Sometimes there is time to understand the options first.

It depends entirely on the type and stage of cancer.

Ask your doctor:

"How urgent is my treatment?"

"What happens if treatment starts a few weeks later?"

"Do I have time to obtain a second opinion?"

"What tests are still needed before treatment?"

"What is the purpose of the proposed treatment?"

Cancer treatment is individualized according to the cancer and the person being treated. 

Do not make decisions based only on fear.

Some people start treatment without understanding it because they are frightened.

Others delay treatment because they are frightened.

Both situations can create problems.

Remember

Understand the urgency, then make an informed decision.

Your oncologist should explain why treatment is recommended and when it should begin.
