Does Remission Mean I Am Cured?

Not necessarily.

Questions You're Afraid to Ask

The short answer

Not necessarily.

"Remission" generally means that signs of cancer have decreased or are not detectable according to the way that particular cancer is assessed.

The exact meaning depends on the cancer and the terminology used by the treating team.

Ask:

"Am I in complete or partial remission?"

"What does remission mean in my particular cancer?"

"What follow-up do I need?"

"What is the possibility of recurrence?"

Remember

Do not let a single word on a report determine your understanding.

Ask your oncologist what the result means for you.

Follow-up remains important after treatment. 
