How to Choose an Ayurveda Physician for Cancer Support
An important decision for patients and families
Ayurveda & Integrative
Start with one question:
"Are you offering supportive care or claiming to cure my cancer?"
A responsible practitioner should be comfortable working alongside your cancer-care team.
Look for someone who:
Has recognized professional qualifications in Ayurveda
Takes a detailed medical history
Knows your cancer diagnosis and treatment
Asks about your chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery or other treatment
Reviews your current medicines
Does not ask you to stop prescribed cancer treatment
Is willing to communicate with your oncologist
Explains benefits and uncertainties honestly
Does not promise guaranteed results
Be cautious if someone says:
"Chemotherapy is poison."
"Doctors don't want you to know this cure."
"Stop your cancer medicines."
"This treatment cures every type of cancer."
"You don't need surgery."
"This is 100% guaranteed."
"Your cancer will disappear in 30 days."
These are major warning signs.
Ask questions before starting treatment
What is the purpose of this treatment?
Is it intended to treat my cancer or support my wellbeing?
What evidence supports its use?
Could it interact with my cancer medicines?
What side effects should I watch for?
How long should I take it?
What should I do if my cancer treatment changes?
Remember
The best Ayurveda physician for a person with cancer is not someone who competes with the oncologist.
It is someone who understands the limits of their treatment, respects evidence, prioritizes safety and works for the patient's overall wellbeing.
Good cancer care is collaborative care.
Reliable sources: National Cancer Institute (NCI), World Health Organization (WHO), relevant national cancer-care guidelines, and appropriate peer-reviewed evidence.
