Should I Take Special Foods, Juices or Supplements to "Fight" Cancer?
Be cautious about products claiming to cure or control cancer.
Questions You're Afraid to Ask
The short answer
Be cautious about products claiming to cure or control cancer.
No special food, juice, vitamin, mineral, herb or supplement has been proven to cure cancer.
Why can supplements be a problem?
Some supplements can interact with cancer medicines or change how medicines work in the body.
Before taking anything, ask:
What exactly is in it?
What is the dose?
Is there evidence that it helps?
Can it interfere with my treatment?
Who recommended it?
Is the product from a reliable source?
Remember
Food is nourishment. Medicine is treatment. Supplements are not automatically harmless.
Tell your cancer-care team about everything you take.
Reliable sources: National Cancer Institute (NCI), World Health Organization (WHO), relevant national cancer-care guidelines, and appropriate peer-reviewed evidence.
