Cancer consultations can be overwhelming. You may forget important questions.
Consider asking:
What type of cancer do I have?
What is the stage?
Has it spread?
What is the goal of treatment?
What treatments are available?
What treatment do you recommend and why?
What are the important side effects?
How will we know whether treatment is working?
How soon should treatment begin?
Should I consider a second opinion?
Are there clinical trials suitable for me?
Can I continue my current medicines and supplements?
NCI provides similar question lists for patients preparing for cancer treatment discussions.
Take someone with you if possible.
A family member or trusted friend can listen, take notes and remind you of questions.
Remember
There are no "silly" questions when it is your health.
If you do not understand something, say:
"Please explain that to me in simple language."
