What Should I Eat During Cancer Treatment?

There is no single "cancer diet."

Questions You're Afraid to Ask

The short answer

There is no single "cancer diet."

The priority is usually to maintain adequate nutrition and hydration while adapting food to your symptoms and treatment.

Cancer and treatment can affect appetite, taste, swallowing and digestion. 

Depending on your needs, your diet may include:

Rice or other grains

Dal and pulses

Vegetables

Fruits

Dairy foods

Eggs, fish or meat if you eat them

Nuts and seeds where appropriate

Adequate fluids

If you are losing weight

Tell your doctor or dietitian.

During treatment, unintentional weight loss can be a problem.

Remember

Eating well during cancer treatment is about nourishing the person—not following fashionable diets.

NCI notes that no special diet, food, vitamin or supplement has been proven to control or cure cancer. 
