The short answer

Chemotherapy can cause side effects, but not everyone experiences the same side effects, and many can be prevented or treated.

Different chemotherapy medicines have different effects.

Possible side effects include:

Nausea

Fatigue

Appetite changes

Hair loss

Mouth problems

Changes in blood counts

Constipation or diarrhoea

Nerve symptoms

Ask your oncology team:

"Which side effects are most likely with my treatment?"

"What can I do to prevent them?"

"Which symptoms require an urgent call?"

NCI specifically recommends asking which side effects require immediate medical attention. 
